Historic Thatched Inn in Woolstone - One of Britain's Oldest Inns
Dining
The on-site restaurant serves a diverse menu including wood-fired pizzas, a unique dining option available on Thursday evenings. Guests with special dietary needs are accommodated, with gluten-free options offered on nearly every dish. The kitchen also provides packed lunches for early departures, and the breakfast is noted for its high-quality ingredients and generous portions.
Rooms
Accommodation is located in a quiet annexe adjacent to the pub, with rooms offering spacious, two-level layouts (bedroom downstairs, bathroom upstairs). Each room includes a large comfortable bed, quality bedding and towels, and a bathroom with both bath and shower. Pets are allowed in designated rooms upon request and with an additional charge.
Location
The inn sits in the village of Woolstone, directly below the Uffington White Horse hill and within walking distance of the Ridgeway National Trail. It is 5 miles from Faringdon, 11 miles from Swindon, and close to the M4 motorway. The nearby North Wessex Downs and Stanton Park offer additional walking and nature trails.
Family & Pets
Families are welcome with spacious rooms that can accommodate extra beds or cots on request. The pub's garden and outdoor patio provide a safe space for children to play. Dogs are allowed in both the pub and accommodation (with a charge), and water bowls are provided.
Activities
Guests can walk directly from the inn to the ancient Uffington White Horse, Dragon Ridge, and Wayland's Smithy. The Ridgeway Trail is a 1.2-mile stroll away, making the inn a popular stop for long-distance walkers. Cyclists and hikers also use the inn as a base for exploring the surrounding North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
